Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 2026
Marshal (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website marshalrecipes.com (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
Analytics Data (Anonymous)
We use Posthog, a privacy-focused analytics platform, to understand how visitors use the Service. Posthog collects:
- Anonymous page view events (which pages are visited)
- Browser type, device type, and screen size
- Referral source (how you found the Service)
- General interaction events (searches, category selections)
What Posthog does NOT collect:
- IP addresses — IP anonymization is enabled and IPs are explicitly excluded from all events
- Session recordings — Session replay is disabled
- Cookies — Posthog uses localStorage for persistence, not cookies
- Personal information — No names, emails, or other PII is collected through analytics
Local Preferences
When you use features like the onboarding wizard or adjust recipe servings, your preferences are stored in your browser’s localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
Account Data (When Applicable)
If you create an account, we collect your email address for authentication purposes. Account data is stored securely in our database and is not shared with third parties except as needed to provide the Service.
2. Third-Party Services
Instacart & Impact.com
When you click “Order Ingredients” links, you are directed to Instacart through our affiliate partner Impact.com. Impact.com may set third-party cookies on your device to track conversions and attribute commissions. These cookies are governed by Impact.com’s Privacy Policy and Instacart’s Privacy Policy.
Resend (Email)
If you subscribe to our recipe email, your email address is stored and the email is sent by Resend, our email service provider. Resend processes your address solely to hold the subscriber list and deliver the emails you asked for — we do not sell or rent it, and it is never used for advertising. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list at Resend. See Resend’s Privacy Policy.
Google AdSense (Advertising)
We are preparing to show display advertising through Google AdSense. When ads are running, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites, and may collect your IP address, device and browser information, and interactions with ads. Google’s use of advertising cookies is described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You may opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of participating vendors at aboutads.info. Using the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” control below excludes you from personalized advertising on this site.
Supabase (Authentication & Database)
If accounts are enabled, authentication is provided by Supabase. Supabase processes your email address for account management. See Supabase’s Privacy Policy.
Marshal uses the Pinterest API to publish our own recipe content to our own Pinterest boards. Marshal is an independent service and is not endorsed by, sponsored by, or affiliated with Pinterest. “Pinterest” is a trademark of Pinterest, Inc.
Through this integration we store a limited amount of Pinterest-derived data solely to operate it: the access credentials (tokens) authorizing the connection, identifiers for the boards and pins we create, and aggregate performance metrics for those pins (such as impressions, saves, and clicks). The integration involves only Marshal’s own Pinterest account and content — it does not collect any Pinterest data about visitors to the Service.
If the Pinterest account is disconnected — by revoking Marshal’s access from Pinterest account settings, or by contacting us — we delete the stored Pinterest access credentials and associated Pinterest-derived data from our systems, typically within 30 days.
We do not sell, rent, resell, or otherwise redistribute Pinterest content or Pinterest-derived data to any third party. Pinterest’s own handling of data is governed by Pinterest’s Privacy Policy.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Improve the Service by understanding usage patterns
- Provide personalized recipe recommendations based on your preferences
- Maintain and operate the Service
- Communicate with you about your account (if applicable)
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
4. Data Retention
Anonymous analytics data is retained for 12 months. Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account data at any time by contacting us.
5. Your Choices
Analytics Opt-Out
You can opt out of analytics tracking at any time using the toggle in the “Do Not Sell or Share” section below. When opted out, Posthog will not initialize and no analytics data will be collected.
Clear Local Preferences
You can clear your locally stored preferences at any time by clearing your browser’s localStorage for marshalrecipes.com, or through your browser’s privacy settings.
6. Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information.
Marshal does not sell your personal information. We do not exchange personal data with third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration. Our analytics data is anonymous and does not constitute personal information under the CCPA.
However, third-party cookies set by Impact.com when you click affiliate links, and advertising cookies once display ads are running, may be considered “sharing” under CCPA. You can opt out using the controls below. To block third-party cookies from affiliate links, use your browser’s built-in cookie controls.
Global Privacy Control (GPC)
We honor the Global Privacy Control signal. If your browser or a browser extension sends a GPC signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of analytics, and we apply it automatically — you do not need to do anything else. The controls below will show when a GPC signal has been detected.
Analytics & Tracking
Anonymous analytics are active. Opt out at any time.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information
We do not sell your personal information. Opt out to also exclude you from any future targeted advertising.
7. State Privacy Rights
In addition to California (CCPA/CPRA), residents of the following states have similar privacy rights:
- Virginia (VCDPA)
- Colorado (CPA)
- Connecticut (CTDPA)
- Utah (UCPA)
Regardless of your state, you may exercise your right to opt out of analytics tracking using the toggle above, request information about what data we hold, or request deletion of your data by contacting us at the address below.
8. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
